Senior Monetization/Systems Designer

Phoenix Labs is looking for a Senior Systems Designer to join one of our new game initiatives in our Vancouver studio. 

Contributing to a new multiplayer IP, you will work with the Design Director  and Product Owners to design, champion and implement core progression systems and monetization strategies. They will work closely with multi-discipline teams to achieve business outcomes and engagement targets without compromising player trust or the quality of gameplay experience. They have a proven track record of progression / monetization systems for a variety of titles and can bring their extensive competitive knowledge to the table.

Responsibilities:

  • Own large portions of the game’s design, collaborating with the rest of the team to nail down progression and monetization systems.
  • Pitch, design, prototype, implement, and iterate on progression / monetization systems using a wide range of tools (including UE4 and Blueprinting).
  • Build confidence in progression systems and monetization strategies by running playtests, evaluating feedback, reviewing live data, and proposing and implementing updates.
  • Regularly facilitate discussions and brainstorming sessions on system designs.
  • Remain current on game industry trends including new games and game genres, emerging game design methods and techniques.

Required:

  • Extensive experience in professional game design.
  • Deep experience and proficiency in designing and implementing progression and engagement systems in-engine.
  • Experienced at using data and analytics to inform game and systems tuning.
  • Experience with monetization testing for a live audience (ie. Regional soft-launch or its equivalent). 
  • Can create and iterate complex game progression systems, and anticipate player impact and downstream effects.
  • Understanding of monetization behaviors and best practices across different regions. (I.e. what works in the East vs the West and why). 
  • Has tuned or designed real-money economies for at least one live service game.
  • Passion for video games, with a relentless thirst for learning from playing them.

Preferred:

  • Experience in social systems, meta-game systems, and/or monetization.
  • Experience with A/B testing and segmentation best practices. 
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Proficiency at scripting in game engines.
  • Experience working on a multi-platform game.
  • Experience working on a live product.
