Director of Recruiting, Engineering

Phoenix Labs is looking for an experienced Recruiting Manager/Director to lead Engineering hiring for Games, R&D & Shared Technology across North America.  You will be responsible for developing & executing a strategy to achieve our hiring goals, while leading and inspiring a dedicated team of Engineering Recruiters & Coordinators.  As a leader on the Recruiting team, you will also have the ability to contribute to broader/foundational programs and projects that elevate the Recruiting function.

  • Maintain and cultivate a healthy team dynamic within the Engineering Recruiting Team that fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing across the broader Recruiting team.  
  • Regularly review/evaluate your team's contributions via qualitative/quantitative methods.  Support individuals’ success by providing regular feedback/coaching & find opportunities which help them grow.  
  • Develop and evolve a Recruiting strategy in partnership with Recruiting, Engineering and Production leaders, which aligns with our values/approach and achieves our hiring goals.
  • Review and refine interviewing and hiring processes that support a positive candidate experience while increasing recruiter/hiring manager effectiveness.
  • Build strategic partnerships with various organizations, conferences and/or schools which strengthen our connection to the Engineering community.
  • Contribute to employer branding initiatives and help to refine our value proposition for the Engineering community around the world.
  • Be a thought partner within the Engineering disciplines to key leaders/stakeholders.
  • Ensure the team has a high standard of data integrity/accuracy within our various Recruiting tools (Greenhouse, Gem, LinkedIn, BambooHR).
  • Building & analyzing reports (standard and ad-hoc).
  • Evangelize our relationship-driven approach to Recruiting, both internally and externally.


  • 7+ years of Recruiting experience in the Games industry, preferably in high-growth and/or dynamic environments.
  • 1-2+ years of formal/informal people management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex problems, involving multiple stakeholders, including leading projects/programs from design to implementation. 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and follow through.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and being self-directed/entrepreneurial.
  • Articulate and approachable, able to work with multi-disciplinary teams at all levels of seniority.


  • Previous experience leading a team that supports multiple teams, projects or locations concurrently.
  • Understanding of how games are made & what the various Game Engineering domains are responsible for within the game development process.
  • Well versed in the global gaming ecosystem & Engineering talent landscape.
  • Working knowledge of Greenhouse and/or Gem.
  • Good understanding of Excel/Google Sheets (create pivot tables, how to analyze & interpret data).
